Weedbusters 2018-1

Join us on Earth Day tackling and removing invasive species! These are non-native plants that have become established and replaced native species around Burnaby Lake.

We’ll provide gloves, tools, and snacks. Dress for the weather and be prepared to work off-trail in the woods. Ages 8+.

We’re meeting at the Glencarin Trail entrance and will plan to sweep the south shore of English Ivy & Scotch Broom.

We hope you’ve had a good August and were able to get out and enjoy the sunshine and perhaps get out and explore more Metro Vancouver Regional Parks to celebrate the 50th Anniversary and get your passports stamped.

It’s hard to believe it’s September already and the unofficial start to Fall. We have the dates of our stewardship activities here including our two EcoBlitzes in October. We’ll add details to our listings in our Event Calendar as we find out more. If you have any specific questions or are thinking about bringing your community or corporate group, please contact Ann, our Volunteer Coordinator at info@burnabylakepark.ca. If you can RSVP, it will be helpful to us to plan for snacks and equipment.

Be a Champion for Native Plants!

Join the Burnaby Lake Park Association as we continue to restore the North Avalon Restoration Site. We are hosting a Weedbusters work party and will be planting native plants around a site where some fishing trails will be closed off. There will still be some Himalayan Blackberry and other invasive plants to remove as a last clean-up before planting.

Wear sturdy footwear and long sleeves and pants for protection from the thorns. Dress for the weather. We will provide tools and gloves

If you haven’t already done it, pick up a Metro Vancouver Regional Parks 50th Anniversary passport. Visit some of the other Metro Vancouver Regional Parks and get the passport stamped to earn rewards and enter to win prizes.
