Join us for another stewardship work party with the Burnaby Lake Park Association.
We are focusing on the east end of Burnaby Lake around the Avalon Parking Lot and Cariboo Dam. Please come and help us get the area ready for the change to the warmer season ahead with bird nesting activity and the new spring growth.
We have 2 tasks:
Servicing the nest boxes that are in the area and
Planting native plants to finish a job we started in the fall.
Please come dressed for the weather and be prepared to work off trails. Wear warm, dry clothing and sturdy, waterproof footwear. We provide all the tools and equipment you’ll need and will have refreshments on hand.
Date: Saturday, February 3, 2018 Time: 10:00 am to 1:00 pm Where: Lenson House – (yellow house across the road from the Parks Central Area Office at 9146 Avalon Ave.)
Park in the Avalon Parking Lot off Cariboo Road and walk back to the meeting place. We’ll have signs up.
Check our Directions page for transit information including bus stop numbers.
Help service the nest boxes around Burnaby Lake that provide homes for wood ducks, swallows, chickadees, and flying squirrels. Collect valuable data that helps us to understand how these species are doing in our park as well as making any adjustments to increase nesting success.
It is important that you dress for the weather, and waterproof footwear is highly recommended. We’ll provide the gloves, tools and snacks.
IMPORTANT: Please keep an eye on our website or social media for any change of plans due to the weather. The forecast is for a similar winter so we may need to adjust due to conditions. You can also sign up with our volunteer coordinator at email@example.com and get put on the list to receive any updates by email.
Did you know?
Records show the first nest boxes put up by the BLPA’s predecessor, the Burnaby Outdoor Education Association, in 1974. Over the years, founding member Joe Sadowski has continually refined and improved the design of them so they suit our We(s)t Coast weather.
Join the Burnaby Lake Park Association as we continue to restore the North Avalon Restoration Site. We are hosting a Weedbusters work party and will be planting native plants around a site where some fishing trails will be closed off. There will still be some Himalayan Blackberry and other invasive plants to remove as a last clean-up before planting.
Wear sturdy footwear and long sleeves and pants for protection from the thorns. Dress for the weather. We will provide tools and gloves
We’re planning for special post work party refreshments so please help us get organized by sending a quick RSVP’ to Ann firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you!
