COVID-19 Safety

As part of the Metro Vancouver Regional Park system, Burnaby Lake Regional Park and the BLPA operate under their guidelines. Metro Vancouver’s commitment is to maintain core services while protecting the health and safety of their employees, partners and the public.

Everyone is moving forward at their own pace. Please be respectful and kind as you consider others’ personal choices. Thank you for doing your part to keep each other safe.

Please enjoy the Park while respecting the following guidelines:

  • Stay home and away from others if you have cold or flu symptoms
  • Walk, bike, or take transit to avoid contributing to traffic and parking issues
  • If physical distancing is not possible in certain locations, e.g. Piper Spit, please consider wearing a mask
  • Respect personal space
  • Consider people’s situations and comfort levels
  • Dispose of tissues, masks and other waste in designated garbage bins
  • Pack it in, pack it out – do not leave any items behind in parks
  • Wash or sanitize hands frequently during the day and upon returning home
  • Follow provincial guidelines

Metro Vancouver has increased staff patrols, sanitation of high-touch surfaces, traffic management and continues to monitor and manage visitor behaviour. Staff are reassessing the status of each regional park on an ongoing basis. They have postponed or reduced capacities, at Metro Vancouver permitted events and pivoted public programs for smaller groups and virtual field trip participation. Parking restrictions are in place at select parks and municipalities have ramped up parking enforcement in residential areas near regional parks.

Please check Metro Vancouver’s website for the latest parks service advisories.

BLPA ACTIVITY SAFETY PLANS (July 2021)

Safety guidelines have been developed to for minimize the risk of COVID-19 exposure during stewardship activities in order to ensure a safe work environment for Burnaby Lake Park Association (BLPA) members, contractors and volunteers. A risk assessment has been taken to evaluate the site to ensure physical distancing, registration procedures to keep participants informed and aware of their responsibility to self-assess, instruction and break procedures, hygiene, handling and sanitation of tools and PPE.

Some key adaptations that have been made for your safety:

  • Work party group size is limited to a maximum of 25 people
  • Volunteers must be 16 years+
  • All new volunteers will go through an orientation with the BLPA Coordinator
  • Pre-registration for all required for health verification and to collect contact information – no drop ins are allowed
  • Volunteers are required to bring and wear a mask regardless if they are vaccinated or not.
  • Masks will be required when physical spacing is unable to be maintained, but volunteers may choose to continue to wear throughout the work party; we want you to feel safe while participating.
  • Volunteers will bring water and work gloves/tools if they prefer to use their own.

Prior to each event, we will re-assess based on current information and adjust accordingly.

Volunteers should be prepared for the possibility of last minute cancellation of stewardship events if provincial health orders change.

You will find the full plan here: BLPA-COVID-19 Safety Plan-Stewardship Programming.
