The Regional Parks Connect – Metro Vancouver Meetup Group is an enthusiastic hands-on group active throughout Metro Vancouver who gets together to remove invasive plants and replant native vegetation in our Regional Parks. Have fun, help the environment, make new friends, get some fresh air and exercise in the great outdoors!
Burnaby Lake Community Partners
There is a community of organizations that call Burnaby Lake Regional Park home. We are happy to be good neighbours and help each other with our activities and events.
Burnaby Lake Rowing Club
The Burnaby Lake Rowing Club (BLRC) is situated at the calm waters of Burnaby Lake, one of the most desirable venues for the sport of rowing in North America. Juniors from local secondary schools row alongside Senior and Masters athletes in an atmosphere of camaraderie, competition and recreation.
As a member of Rowing British Columbia and Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA), the BLRC is governed by the World Rowing Federation, (FISA – Fédération Internationale des Sociétés d’Aviron). FISA, empowered by its 148 member National Rowing Federations, the National Olympic Committees and the International Olympic Committee is responsible for the development of the World Rowing Environmental Policy and Principles.
POLICY
- FISA is committed to promoting practices within the sport of rowing which are environmentally sustainable and setting new standards in sustainable sports event management.
- Environmental sustainability in rowing includes social, cultural, economic and ecological responsibility which fulfils present needs while allowing future generations to meet their needs.
PRINCIPLES FOR ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY
In implementing this policy FISA will be guided by the following principles:
- Protection of the habitat of fauna and flora and bio-diversity;
- Conservation of resources both renewable and non-renewable;
- Reduction of waste and pollutants in all their forms;
- Recognition of the importance of heritage and indigenous cultural values;
- Promotion of healthy conditions for athletes, officials, volunteers and spectators in which to conduct the sport of rowing;
- Fostering environmental awareness and education about sustainable development and clean water within the international rowing community; and,
- Consulting the wider community to foster positive partnerships.
The Burnaby Lake Park Association is proud to be one of BLRC’s community partners that assists in meeting the standards of this policy.
Burnaby Horsemen’s Association
The Burnaby Horsemen’s Association (BHA) is a registered non-profit organization that provides an affordable equestrian facility within Burnaby city limits. The BHA facility offers self-boarding for horses and includes three barns, an indoor riding arena, two outdoor riding arenas, a round pen, and a network of trails. The facilities are maintained by BHA’s membership volunteers. BHA offers horsemanship programs and riding lessons for all ages, as well as free horse manure for public pick-up. Drop-in visitors are welcome.

Wildlife Rescue Association of BC
The Wildlife Rescue Association of BC (WRA) was established i 1979 to rehabilitate wildlife affected by human activity and provide education to the public on co-existing with urban wildlife. Since its founding, more than 80,000 animals have been treated by the WRA. Today, the WRA runs its wildlife hospital, known as the Care Centre on the south shore of Burnaby Lake and it treats animals from across the Lower Mainland, the rest of BC and further afield.
