Weedbusters Returns!

TruckFullofInvasives

It is September and the Invasives are still growing! We are going to be removing Himalayan Blackberry from around the Burnaby Lake Nature House.

Wear sturdy footwear as we work off the trails. Dress appropriately for the weather conditions. We work whether it rains or shines. Long sleeves and long pants will help protect you from scratchy plants! Gloves, tools, and snacks will be provided.

Bring your enthusiasm and your desire to learn about the impact of invasive species and efforts to restore the lake environment.

**LOCATION CHANGE – Weedbusters July 28, 2019**

The Weedbusters we had scheduled for Sunday, July 28 has changed its location. We’re heading to New Westminster to help our neighbouring park on the Brunette-Fraser Regional Greenway.

We will  be assisting Metro Vancouver Regional Parks staff at Sapperton Landing Regional Park on the New Westminster waterfront. They are starting to begin the process of “wilding” the park and re-establishing native vegetation. However, the areas formally colonized by Himalayan Blackberry need to have all of these invasive plants removed.

Staff have prepared the site and the Weedbusters will help dig up and remove the root balls before planting native plants this fall. Tools, training, and refreshments will be provided. Please dress for the weather and for physical work (closed toed shoes required, pants and long sleeves recommended).

For more details about the work party, park, and directions, check the event listing here.

We would love to meet the community members of the Sapperton neighbourhood and across  New Westminster – come and join us!
